Why Podcast or Blog?

  • Audio is faster than writing
  • Podcast can be very malleable - can transcribe it into an article or draw out bits for a video
  • There is a immediacy to writing on a blog. You can spread your ideas right out there.

Tips for Producing Content

Don't Seek Perfection

=="Done is better than perfect" - Femke==

  • Accept that it’s never going to be perfect. Just get your content out there. That should be part of your workflow
  • JUST START. Stop worrying about all the tools and software. ==You can always upgrade and get better from where you start.== You don’t have to start from a perfect place.

The Habit is the Key

"Content creation is a marathon, not a sprint" - Maurice Cherry

  • The habit of creating content is the essential thing. Build up your content creating muscle. Make it part of the way you think/live.
  • ==Build a system into how you get the content out there. Make is seamless.== This makes the habit of content creation much easier. Have the workflow in place. Makes content quicker, easier, and less pressure.
  • ==A well-oiled system lets you have content in the pipeline so you can take breaks too.==

Pursue interest, not 'content'

  • ==Don’t do content as a stepping stone in your career. Do it because you want to.== It’s always going to BE work, but it shouldn’t feel like work. It should be a habit, a part of you.
  • Your interest should propel you
  • ==Your goal should not be ‘I want to create content’==
    • It should be —> what am I excited about? What do I want to learn about? What value can I give to others?

Provide Value

  • Before recording, ask: “What do you want the takeaway of this conversation to be?”
  • ==Think about what you want people to get from your content== - Maurice Cherry
  • Is your audience gaining something from you?
  • ==Audience’s are savvy now. They can tell when it’s authentic or not.==
  • Quality over quantity to build a loyal audience

Finding Guests

  • Guests may be cold outreach. Ask guest when they’re on the show if they have someone they think should feature and get them to make an introduction
  • ==Reach out to previous speakers for suggestions. Expand your circle.==
